There are several major health problems facing all Australian children today. Among the most prominent are childhood obesity/overweight and the growing number of oral health problems, particularly dental decay. Although these health concerns have an immediate impact on a child , perhaps more worrying are the potential long term consequences. Obesity during childhood is a predictor for the development of obesity in adulthood. This is of particular concern as overweight and obesity are a significant risk factor for diseases such as cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes.

The health issues for children aged 0-12 are -childhood obesity -dental decay -Vitamin D deficiency and rickets -high intake of sweet drinks and processed, high fat foods
